Martin’s background is in industrial design.He studied In West Glamorgan Institute of Higher Education and specialised in tableware design and prototype production While there he was awarded the college bursary prize for sculpture even though this was not an integral part of his study area. He has always had a particular love of figurative sculpture from an early age and is essentially self taught. Combined with his knowledge of mould making and production it was a natural transition to working as a sculptor in the pottery industry. He worked extensively as a freelance sculptor and was commissioned by top ceramics companies both in the UK and USA to design and sculpt a wide range of figurative pieces He has worked for Wedgwood , Coalport and in particular Royal Worcester where his work won considerable plaudits, including “Figurine of the Year 2003” . He has now embarked on a new path, creating a collection of original sculptures and dealing directly with galleries.
